Bad UI 101

For today’s lession in Bad UI 101, I bring you the trading site Scottrade.com.  While crying over my portfolio today, I saw something that made me (almost) sadder:

Scottrade Screen Shot

This is the Intarwebs people.  We haves the hyperlinks.  Let’s use them.  Instead of a 4-step map to an adventure across the site - which you can’t take with you unless you print it out - why not say:

“Tax time is fast approaching… Click here to update your mailing address.”

It’s so simple.

P.S. One more item for the Scottrade people if they happen to stumble across this post.  Your site crashes Firefox on both PC and Mac when you refresh the account home page.  Both the hot-key and refresh button crash every time.  The only way to update the page is to click “Home.”

P.P.S.  Apologies to the Firefox team.  The browser isn’t as unstable as I have been saying.  It was this one site killing it for me.  Keep up the good work.
